Vellarada Choondickal Bhadrakali Temple – Festival

Vellarada Choondickal Bhadrakali temple is located at Vellarada in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali who is lovingly known as Choondikkal Amma. The shrine observes its annual festival in Kumbha masam (February – March). The festival begins on the Kumbha Bharani day.

Thirumudi is worshipped in the temple. The temple has a nalambalam, kodimaram, and namaskara mandapam. (അമ്മതിരുമുടിയും, തൃക്കോടിമരവും, ഷഡാധാരാ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയും, ചുറ്റമ്പലവുമുള്ള അത്യപൂർവ ക്ഷേത്രം)

The annual festival is famous for the Amma Thirumudi Ezhunnallathu and Kaliyoottu. Tantric pujas and rituals, various Kerala performing arts, unique ezhunnallathu of rare structures atop the head of devotees are part of the festival. Kuthiyottam and Guruthi are part of the festival

The shrine observes annual Lakshadeepam ritual. Navratri and Thrikarthika festival are observed here.
