Varavoor Palakkal Bhagavathy Temple – Festival – Karthika Vela

Varavoor  Palakkal Bhagavathy temple is located at Varavoor in Thrissur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy and is located in the middle of paddy fields. The annual Karthika vela festival in the temple is held in Malayalam Kumbha Masam (February – March).

This is small but beautiful and well managed temple with shrines of upa devatas, chuttambalam, small pond and namaskara mandapam. Bhagavathi is worshipped in a chathura sreekovil.

The annual festival is famous for panchavadyam performance, ezhunnallathu of Devi and several caparisoned elephants. Velichappadu, kuthira vela, thira, poothan and other performing arts of Kerala are part of the festival.

The shrine also observes various other festivals including Vishu, Ramayana Masam, Navratri, Mandalakalam and Thrikarthika.
