Purapuzha Puthuchira Kavu Devi Temple – Festival

Purapuzha Puthuchira Kavu Devi temple is located at Purappuzha in Idukki district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi. The annual festival in the temple is held on Pooram nakshatra day in Meena masam (March – April) and is known as Puthuchirakkavu Meenam Pooram. It is a six day annual festival.

The main deity worshipped in the shrine is Goddess Bhadrakali. This is a beautiful temple with a chuttambalam, namaskara mandapam, temple pond and shrines of upa devatas.

The shrine is nearly 1500 years old and belonged to the Mazhtumcherri family.

The annual festival is known for Ezhunnallathu, caparisoned elephants, Chenda melam, procession and attam. The festival culminates with arattu.

The temple also observes various rituals during Navratri including Ashtami, Navami and Vijayadashami. Thrikarthika is another important festival in the temple.
