Mundakkal Amruthakulam Shiva Temple – Festival

Mundakkal Amruthakulam Shiva temple is located at Mundakkal on Polayathode-Chayakkadamukku near Madannada in Kollam district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Shiva – Mahadevar. Maha Shivratri in Kumbha Masam (February or March) is an important day at Amruthakulam temple.

The Shivratri festival is noted for abhishekam, dhara, Tantric pujas and rituals and homam. The temple is decorated with lamps and flowers on the occasion.

This is a small temple with a Shivling in the vattar sreekovil – round sanctum sanctorum. There is a namaskara mandapam and upa devatha temples.

The main offering in the temple is Ghee lamp or neyyu vilakku.

Mondays and Saturdays are important days in a week. Pradosham Vratam on the 13th day of a fortnight is observed here.

Ramayana Masam, Vrischika Masam (Mandala Kalam) and Thiruvathira in Dhanu Masam are important in the temple.
