Marattil Kottaram Bhagavathy Temple – Thalappoli Festival

Marattil Kottaram Bhagavathy temple is located at Maradu in Kochi – Ernakulam, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali. The annual festival in the temple is held in Kumbha Masam and is famous as Maradu Thalappoli festival.

The annual festival is famous for its fireworks known as Maradu Vedikettu. The first day of Thalappoli festival is conducted by Vadakke Cheruvaram and the second day is conducted by Thekke Cheruvaram.

The festival is also famous for caparisoned elephants – nearly half a dozen participate in the festival with Thidambu, venchamaram and muthukuda. Procession, Kerala temple art forms and pujas and rituals are part of the annual festival.

The shrine also performs the Mudiyettu ritual in Meda Masam (April – May).

The temple is also famous for its Thrikarthika festival.

The annual prathishta dinam is held in Thulam Masam. Other important rituals include Navratri, Illam Nira and Thriputtari.
