Mannancherry Thrikkovil Mahadeva Temple – Festival – Two Shivas In One Temple

Mannancherry Thrikkovil  Mahadeva temple is located at Mannancherry in Alappuzha district, Kerala. This a unique Shiva temple as there are two Shivlings worshipped in the same temple. The 8-day annual festival in the temple concludes with arattu on Thiruvathira nakshatra in Dhanu Masam (December – January). Maha Shivratri in Kumbha Masam (February – March) is another important festival in the temple.

There are two sreekovil in the same chuttambalam in the temple. Both the sreekovils have Shivlings – vaddkanappan and thekkenappan. The two namaskara mandapam in the temple has Rishabham or Nandi. There are two kodimarams in the temple. There is a pond in front of the temple.

The annual festival is noted for various Shiva temple rituals including ezhunnallathu atop a caparisoned elephant, melam, thiruvathira kali, pallivetta, panchavadyam, ulsava bali, annadanam, pantheeradi pooja, ahassu, valiya vilakku sadya, kasha sree bali, kazhcha seeveli, kalasha puja. The annual festival which begins with kodiyettam concludes with arattu procession.

The upa devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathi, Ayyappa or Sastha, Nagas, Yakshi and Rakshas.

The temple has some very important sculptures.
