Chalakudy Monapilly Shiva Temple – Festival

Chalakudy Monapilly Shiva temple is located at Monapilly near Chalakudy in Thrissur district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Shiva – Mahadeva. Ayyappan Vilakku in Dhanu Masam (December – January) and Maha Shivaratri (February – March) are the two most important festivals at Monappilly Shiva temple.

This is an ancient temple believed to be more than 1000 years old. The sreekovil here is two-tiered and round in shape – vatta sreekovil. Namaskara Mandapam has a Nandi or Rishabham. A Shivling is worshipped in the shrine. The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple include Ayyappa (Sastha), Ganapathy and Goddess Bhagavathy.

Shivratri is observed mainly with pujas, prayers and rituals. Various homams, abhishekam, Rudra puja etc are held on the day.

The temple is decorated with lamps on the occasion of Ayyappan Vilakku.

Pradosham (on every fortnight of Malayalam month), Ramayana Masam, Vrischika Masam, Thrikarthika and Thiruvathira are important occasion in the shrine.
