Sivalinga Dasa Swami Samadhi Day In Kerala – Prominent Disciple Of Sree Narayana Guru

Sivalinga Dasa Swami (1859 -1919) was one of the first and prominent disciples of Sree Narayana Guru, philosopher, spiritual leader and social reformer. He was born at Aruvippuram and was named Ayyappan Pillai. In 2025, it is the 106th Samadhi day. Sivalingadasa Swami Samadhi Day is observed annually on January 8.

Sivalinga Dasa Swami met Sree Narayana Guru the first time when Guru was staying in a cave near Neyyar River in Aruvippuram. Guru taught him some Sanskrit and later sent him to Perunelli Krishnan Vaidyar for further study. In 1905, Ayyappan Pillai accepted the ascetic way of life from the Guru and became Sivalinga Dasa Swami.

Sivalingadasa Swami accompanied Sree Narayana Guru when he moved to Varkala and helped him to build a hermitage at Sivagiri. He served in many Ashrams and temples built by Sree Narayana Guru. Later he stayed at Trichur Peringottukara Ashram; he started a Sanskrit school there. In 1919, Sivalinga Dasa Swami attained Samadhi.
