Nelpini Sri Subrahmanya Swami Temple – Facts – Festival

Nelpini Sri Subrahmanya Swami temple is located at Sreenarayanapuram near Kodungallur in Thrissur district, Kerala. This an ancient shrine dedicated to Muruga or Subrahmanya and the deity faces west which is a rarity. The annual Thaipooyam festival observed in Makarm month (January – February) is an important festival in the temple.

The Thaipooyam festival is famous for temple music, various types of Kavadis, Shoolam, and Kavadiyattam. The festival is one of the most colorful festivals in the region. Caparisoned elephants, melam, temple music and procession are part of the festival.

The temple also observes Sashti fasting in every Malayalam month – the sixth day after Karutha Vavu or Amavasya.

The temple has a square sanctum sanctorum and is built on traditional Kerala temple architecture style.
