Thonniyakavu Temple Puthenpeedika - History - Festival

Thonniyakavu temple is located at Puthenpeedika on Thrissur – Triprayar road on Thrissur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali. The prathishta is of Kannadishila.

As per history, the Goddess worshipped in the temple was brought from Kodungallur by Thachutti Karthavu, local ruler.

The darshanam of Thoniyakavu Bhadrakali is towards west. The goddess is the Para Devata of fourteen karas.

The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Vadakkumpurathu Veerabhadra, Ganapati and Kandakarnan. There is also a shrine of Rakshas.

The temple participates in the annual Arattupuzha Pooram.

It is believed that Thonniya Kavu Bhagavathi is the sister of Peringottukara Thiruvanikkavu Bhagavathy.

Ashwathy, Bharani, and Kartika vela festival in Kumbham month are the most important festival here.
