Murukkumpuzha Sree Kalakandeshwaram temple is located at Mundakkal in Murukkumpuzha, Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. The temple is without any particular deity – the sanctum has a panchaloha prabha with ‘om’ written in the temple. This unique pratishta was done by Sri Narayana Guru on kollavarsham 1097 Dhanu 8.
The sanctum sanctorum of the temple is based on the concept of Advaita.
It is said that when the people of the region were getting ready to install Kalakanda murti, Sri Narayana Guru did not agree with the decision. Instead of murtis of a particular god He advised the people to make the temple a center of Advaita teaching. Thus a light with om was installed in the sanctum. The universal values of satyam, dharma, daya and shanty were etched in a circle around the om.
