Koorkenchery Sree Maheswara Temple - History

Koorkenchery Sree Maheswara temple is located at Sreenarayanapuram near Koorkenchery in Thrissur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Shiva and the Shivling here was consecrated by Sri Narayana Guru on September 12, 1916 (Kollavarsham 1092 Chingam 28).

The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathy, Subramania, Sri Krishna, Nagaraja, Ayyappa and Goddess Parvati.

Mahashivratri is of great importance here. Special pujas are held on Mondays. Pradosham day in a fortnight is of great significance.

Monthly Sashti fasting is observed here. Mandala Kalam in Vrischikam Dhanu masam of significance in the shrine.

Vinayaka Chaturthi in Chingam month is another important festival. Navratri is also observed in the temple.

Thaipooyam festival in Kumbham month, a seven-day festival dedicated to Subramanya, is the main annual festival of the temple.

The temple observes the Ashtami Rohini festival with various rituals, pujas and procession.
