Cheriyanad Sree Bala Subramanya Swamy Temple – Information – History

Cheriyanad Sree Bala Subramanya Swamy temple is located at Cheriyanad on the Mavelikkara – Chengannur road in Alappuzha district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Muruga and is worshipped in the child form - Bala Subramaniya.

The temple has a vatta sreekovil or round sanctum sanctorum. The darshanam of Cheriyanad Sree Bala Subramanya Swamy is towards east. The murti consecrated in the shrine is nearly 5 feet tall.

The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Parthasarathy, Shiva, Ganapathi, Bhadrakali, Rakshas, Nagayakshi and Yogi.

The 10-day annual festival in the temple begins on Uthram nakshatra in Makaram month (January – February) with kodiyettam or flag hoisting.

Kavadiyattam is held on Thaipooyam (January or February).

As per history, the temple belonged to eight illams including Neduveli, Ezhunelal, Pulamuttathu, Vadukathil and Muthedathu.
