Kalkulathu Shankara Narayana Swami Temple Near Kottiyam

Kalkulathu Sankara Narayana Swamy temple is located at Thrikkovilvattom in Kollam District, Kerala. The temple is located around 1 km from Kottiyam Kannanalloor Decent Mukku on Thiruvananthapuram – Kollam National Highway.

The temple is one among the most famous Shankara Narayana Swamy temple in Kerala.

It is believed that the murti worshipped in the temple belonged to a Brahmin who had arrived here from Kalkulam in Kanyakumari District. The murti was the Upasana murti of the Brahmin. It is believed that the Brahmin first resided in the Bhootathankavu near the temple. The Brahmin later resided at Cherukara house at Chenthapurile. As the Brahmin arrived from Kalkulam, the temple came to be known as Kalkulathu Sankaranarayana Swamy temple.

Bhoothathankavu is located in the middle of a filed on the eastern side of the temple.

The annual temple festival in the temple begins from Bhothathankavu.

The temple has sreekovil, nalambalam, namaskara mandapam and upa kovil all made using stone.

The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathy, Sasthavu, Durga, Nagaraja and Nagayakshi.
