Yamunotri Temple Uttarakhand – Information about Yamunotri Temple in the Himalayas

Yamunotri Temple in Himalayas is part of the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. It is located in Uttarkashi. Yamunotri Temple is located at an altitude of 3293 meter. Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal constructed the shrine. A 7 km trek from Hanuman Chatti, through stone tiles and slabs, takes one to the shrine. One has to cross an iron bridge to reach the temple.

The shrine is located on the banks of Yamuna River and is on the flank of Bandar Poonch Parvat.

The murti of Goddess Yamuna is made of black marble. The sanctum sanctorum also has murtis of Goddess Ganga and Goddess Lakshmi.

Surya Kund, an hot spring, is located nearby. Devotees take bath here and offer prayers at Divya Shila before taking the blessings of Ma Yamuna.

Rice and potato tied in muslin cloth is dipped and cooked in the Surya Kund and is offered as Prasad to the deities.

Goddess Yamuna goes to Kharsali Village near Janki Chatti to meet her brothers Yam and Shani. She stays here for the entire winter period. She returns on Akshaya Tritiya day to her abode in Yamunotri.

Goddess Yamuna blesses devotees with bounty and abundance.
