Onamthuruthu Sri Krishna Temple – Festival – History

Onamthuruthu Sreekrishna temple is located at Onamthuruthu in Neendoor village near Ettumanoor in Kottayam district, Kerala. The main deity worshipped in the temple Bhagavan Sri Krishna. It is believed that the murti worshipped in the temple was the upasana murti of Pattyal Swamiyar.

The 8-day annual festival in the temple ends with Arattu on Thiruvonam nakshatra in Medam month.

The main murti worshipped in the temple is six-feet and is four-armed. There are two sankalpams regarding the murti one is that it is Balagopala another is that it is Bala Narasimha.

The circular sanctum sanctorum (Vatta Sreekovil) faces east.

The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Shiva, Sastha and Ganapathy (all of them are seated in a single sreekovil). Goddess Bhagavathi is consecrated on the south mandapam of Nalambalam.

Legend has it that the Prathishta in the temple was performed by Dharmaputra (Yudhisthira).
