Iringannur Shiva Temple At Edacheri Near Kozhikode

Iringannur Shiva temple is one of the oldest Hindu temples in North Kerala. It is located at Edacheri near Kozhikode, Kerala. The 3-day temple festival is held during Thiruvathira in Dhanu Masam.

Dakshinamurthy form of Shiva is worshipped in the temple. The Shivling faces east. As per some belief, the Shivling in the temple represents Sadashiva. The place gets the name Iringannur because Shiva in the temple has two eyes.

The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathy, Ayyappan, Vishnu and Sastha.

The Shivling in the temple is broken. The temple was vandalized and destroyed by the army of Tipu Sultan.

The temple is one among the 108 Shiva temples in Kerala.

Iringannur Shiva temple is also one of the three Thrikkapaleeswaram temples. The other two temples are Niranam Thrikkapaleeswaram Dakshinamurthy Temple in Pathanamthitta district and Kadachira Sri Thrikkapalam Shiva Temple in Kannur district.

The two-tiered Sanctum Sanctorum faces east and is square in shape with tiled roof.

The temple was one among the 13 temples of Kadathanadu Kings.
