Erattachira Shiva temple is located inside the main market in Thrissur town in Kerala. The Shivling in the temple faces east. This is one among the three important Shiva temples in Thrissur. The famous Vadakkumnathan Temple is located in the center and in north Ashokeshwaram and in south Erattachira.
Only a single puja is held in a day in the temple.
The place got the name Erattachira as there were twin water bodies (chiras) attached to the Shiva temple. Erattachira Palace is located behind the temple.
The coronation ceremony (Ariyittu Vazhcha) of kings of the erstwhile Kochi kingdom was held in the Erattachira Palace or Kovilakam.
