The main deity worshipped in the temple is Shiva but the fame of the temple rests on Upa Devata Sastha. The other upa devatas in the temple are Ganapathy and Bhadrakali.

The unique aspect of the Sastha murti is that he is holding a lotus.

The temple was known as Thayamkulangara Kavu in Thottam Pattu. Thus this is one among the 108 Ayyappa temples in Kerala.
