Vamanapuram Temple Information - Festival – Anakudy Vamanapuram Vamana Temple Dasavatharam Charthal

Vamanapuram Temple is located at Anakudy a km off on Vamanapuram – Karett – Anakudi road n Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. The 8-day annual festival ends with arattu on Thiruvonam nakshatra day in Kumbham month. Another important festival in the temple is the Dasavatharam Charthal held during 10 days of Onam.

Vamanapuram Temple Festival

The shrine is on the banks of Vamanapuram lake and is dedicated to Vamana incarnation of Bhagavan Vishnu. The square-shaped sreekovil is two tiered and the deity faces east. It is only temple dedicated to Vamana avatar of Vishnu in South Kerala. The temple is also known as Thevar Kovil.

The upa devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathy, Naga and Bhoothathan.

Dasavatharam Charthal At Vamanapuram Temple

Dasavatharam charthal is a unique festival in which the murti of Bhagavan in the sanctum sanctorum is decorated in ten avatars of Vishnu. Nearly 100, 000 people visit the temple during the 10-day period to have a glimpse of Bhagavan in various forms. The festival is held during Onam the biggest festival in Kerala which has roots in the Vamana avatar and King Mahabali.

Special pujas and offerings are held during the period. Annadanam or food donation is held on all days.

The festival is famous for caparisoned elephants, melam, fireworks, sheeveli, spiritual discourses, dance, kathakali and ottamthullal.
