Thiruvanchoor Temple Festival – Thiruvanchoor Subramanya Swamy Temple

Thiruvanchoor Subramanya Swamy Temple is located, around 10 km from Kottayam town, on Ayarkunnam-Thiruvanchoor Road in Kottayam district, Kerala. The 8-day annual festival at Thiruvanchoor temple begins a day before Vishu.

Thaipooyam in Makara Masam is another important festival observed in the temple. Skanda Sashti (November) is another important ritual in the temple.

The murti of Murugan which faces east is carved out of Anjana Shila and is nearly 6 feet tall. The sanctum sanctorum is circular (vatta sreekovil).

The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Dakshinamurti Shiva, Ganapathy, Sastha and Sri Krishna.

The temple was built during the 15th century.

The temple is a temporary halt for pilgrims visiting the Sabarimala Temple. Ayyappa devotees traveling from Ettumanoor to Sabarimala go via Pala and Ponkunnam town. When the devotees travel through Thiruvanchoor – Mankad temple they can save time. Thiruvanchoor Subramanya Swamy Temple is around 6 km from Ettumanoor.
