Killikulangara Bhagavathy Temple History - Festival

Killikulangara Bhagavathy temple is located at Killikulangara on Ottapalam – Shornur road in Palakkad district, Kerala. The annual festival in the temple is observed from Medam 1 to Medam. The Makara Chowa falling on the first Tuesday (chovva) of Makaram month is of great importance in the temple.

Kuthu is performed on all days of the festival. Melam and Pooram consisting of 30 elephants are observed on the last day of the festival.

This is one among the 108 Durga temples in Kerala. In the Durga stotra namavali it was known as Thirukkulam.

Legend has that the head of Kaipatheri family had gone on a Tirth Yatra and when he returned back he felt the presence of Devi in a pond and soon had darshan of Goddess. The pond belonged to Varikumanjeri Illam and the temple was soon constructed in the land.

Narukkila naivedyam is performed daily on the pond in which Goddess appeared.
