Poonjar Sree Dharma Sastha Temple Deities - Information - History - Festival

Poonjar Sree Dharma Sastha Temple, also known as Panachipara Dharma Sastha Temple, is located at Panchipara in Poonjar village in Kottayam district, Kerala. The 8-day festival begins with kodiyettam on Anizham nakshatra in Makaram month.

The temple is around 5 km from Erattupetta.

The temple is one among the 108 Ayyappa temples mentioned in Thottam Pattu. It is referred to as Kattunelkavu.

The main deity is big and is carved out of Krishnashila. The deity holds Veda in the right hand. The deity is believed to the Ayyan form of Sastha. The temple was built in 1165 CE. The main deity faces east.

The Upa Devatas worshiped in the temple are Ganapathy and Malikapurathamma.

The vilakkumadam in the temple is made out of granite stones. There are around 2000 vilakkukal or diyas or lamps made of granite stone. The temple is maintained by Poonjar Kovilakam.

The shrine is also known as Poonjar Koyikal Dharmasastha Temple.
