Azhikode Puthiyakavu Temple History - Festival

Azhikode Puthiyakavu temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali and is located at Azhikode village in Kannur District in Kerala. The annual festival is observed from the 8th day of Makaram month for 7 days.

The temple originally belonged to Chenguni Acchan and Murikancheri Nayanar. Acchan and Nayanar were titles given by Taliparamba Kottaipurathu. They later became 48 families and currently there are 37 uzharanma tharavadu.

This temple used to have uttu during ancient times.

The temple was also under the control of Kolathiri for an extended period.

Another famous temple Kizhakkan Kavu dedicated to Kalarivathukkal Amma is located in front of Azhikode puthiyakavu Temple.
