Monda Mithai Sacrifice During Durga Puja

Monda Mithai (a type of sweet/confectionery) is sacrificed before Durga during Durga Puja. The Hetampur Royal Family's Puja has a rule for Monda sacrifice. Monda is sacrificed on Saptami, Ashtami, and Navami. A one-kilogram Monda is sacrificed on Saptami, a two-kilogram Monda on Ashtami, and a one-kilogram Monda on Navami.

In Bakta village, Monda is sacrificed to Goddess Durga at the Sandhikshan (auspicious junction) of Maha Ashtami. Brajendralal Das was the Zamindar (landlord) of the Khaja Anwar Ber area of Bardhaman. Sacrifice was practiced in Brajendralal's family puja, where goat sacrifice was performed. It is said that Brajendralal received a divine instruction in a dream to stop animal sacrifice. Since then, the practice of animal sacrifice has stopped, and the sacrifice of Monda has begun.
