Jagannath Temple at Angul in Odisha – Angul Saila Srikshetra


Saila Srikshetra is the popular name of Jagannath Temple at Angul in Odisha. It is a modern temple and is constructed on the lines of the famous Puri Jagannath Temple. The shrine is located atop the Sunasagad hill.


Three wooden murtis similar to the ones worshipped in Puri is offered pujas in the sanctum sanctorum. All the rituals followed in Puri are also held here.

Earlier there were three smaller murtis of Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subadhra in the Madan Mohan Temple here. People then wished to have a shrine dedicated to Jagannath. The shrine was completed and opened to devotees in 2002 AD.

People in large numbers visit the temple especially during special occasions like the Rath Yatra, Sankranti and Pana Sankranti.
