Hanuman Temple in Mangalore – Karaneeka Hanumantha Temple

Karaneeka Hanumantha Temple is located about 1 km from Hampanakatta and State Bank circle in the heart of Mangalore City. The temple dedicated to Hindu God Hanuman was built in 1830 by Somayya Rao a Karneek or cleric by profession. The temple is also known as Upadhyaya Mutt as it was built to help Udupi Madhwa Swamijis to perform Madhwa Pooja and Pravachanas.



Hanuman worshipped here is known as the Mukhya Prana Devaru. The murti is of golden color. The temple is also known as Edirumukhada Anjaneya Temple as Hanuman depicts Abhaya hasta and has Sanjeevini hill on one hand.

Participating in the Jnanayagna of Bhagavata Purana held annually her is considered highly meritorious.



The most important festivals in the temple are Ramnavami, Sri Krishna Jayanti, Hanuman Jayanti and Deepotsava in Kartik Month.
