Every Shivratri Sunlight Falls on Shivling at the Kashi Vishwesara Swami Shiva Temple in Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh

It is a unique phenomenon that is happening without a break for three centuries. On the morning of Shivratri suns rays falls on the Shivling worshipped at the Shiva Temple located on the banks of Neera River in Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh. The spectacle continues for a week at the Kashi Vishwesara Swami Temple in Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.

This morning the sun rays touched the presiding deity at the 14th century temple of Kasi Viswesara Swami along the long the riverbanks of Neeva River. The phenomenon will continue daily for one week till February 23. The spectacle will be visible every day for about 10-15 minutes between 6.50 AM to 7.05AM.

Legend has it that Emperor Krishnadevaraya worshiped at the temple and extended his patronage for its up keep and maintenance. The temple patronized by later Cholas Kings and Arcot Nawabs is one of the five Siva temples built along the Neeva River during the same period. 

The rare phenomenon is that on the morning of every Mahasivaratri, sun rays will fall on Siva Lingam. The spectacle will last for a week every day. This will not recur at any other time of the year. Temple chief priest Mohana Swami said that the spectacle has been occuring for last three centuries without a break.
