Kovvur is an important pilgrimage town with numerous sacred places and Hindu Temples in West Godavari District. The place located on the sacred banks of Godavari River. It is an important railway station on South Eastern Railway with frequent trains to Visakhapatnam (Vizag). The town is also located on the National Highway 5.

Kovvur is famous as Goshpada Kshetram.

One of the most renowned Goudiya Mutts is located in the town, opposite to the Lanchila Revu near the banks of Godavari River – Bhajans and talks on various leelas of Sri Krishna takes place here daily.
