Karur Kalyana Pasupatheeswarar Temple – Information with Temple Timing and Contact Details

Kalyana Pasupatheeswarar Temple located at Karur in Tamil Nadu is dedicated to Shiva. The Shivling worshipped in the temple is Swayambhu and is believed to have discovered by the divine cow Kamadhenu. Legend has it that Kamadhenu the divine cow used to pour its milk on an anthill; once the foot of the cow hit the linga inside the anthill and it started bleeding. Shiva then appeared before Kamadhenu and asked he be worshipped as Pasupatheeswarar. The mark of the leg of the divine cow can be still see on the Shivling.

Karuvur Siddhar, one of the 18 siddhas has a shrine in the temple complex. It is believed that Karuvar Siddhar attained moksha by merging with the Shivling here.

Among the seven important Shiva temples in the Kongu region, Pasupatheeswarar Temple is the first and foremost temple.

The most important festivals in the temple are the Chithirai Festival held for ten days, Aadi 18, Aavani Moolam and Mahashivaratri.
