Mangaladevi
Temple, built more 2000
years ago, is located on the border of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. As the temple is
located inside, Periyar Tiger Reserve the temple only opens on the Chithirai
Pournami day – the full moon day or Purnima in Chithirai Month. In 2024, the
temple will be open on April 23.
Mangaladevi
Temple is around 7 km by
road from Pazhiyankudi in Tamil Nadu. From Kumily in Kerala one has to trek
around 15 km through the forest to reach the temple.

The shrine is believed to have been built by Cheran
Chenguttuvan, King of erstwhile Chera dynasty around 2,000 years ago.
The temple is dedicated to Kannagi who burned down the city
of Madurai to
avenge the death of her husband. She is believed to have attained divinity at
the spot where the temple is located.
The temple is now in a dilapidated condition.
