Mundakanni Amman Temple in Mylapore Chennai – Mundaka Kanniamman Koil

Mundakanni Amman Temple is located in Mylapore in Chennai and is dedicated closely associated with Goddess Saraswati. The main murti worshipped in temple is Swyambhu – appeared on its own. Only the head of the murti can be seen - like a lotus – the deity bears the name “Mundakam” which means lotus in Tamil.

There is an anthill and a Banyan Tree behind the sanctum sanctorum of the main temple. It is believed that a Naga (Snake) worships the Mother daily.

It is widely believed that Mundakanni Amman helps devotees in their studies. Artists and students have known to excel in their field after offering worship in the temple.

The most important festivals include Aadi Pooram, Chitra Pournami, Chithirai 1, Vijaya Dasami and last Friday of Thai Masam.
