Triveni Amavasya is observed on the Amavasya or no moon day in Magh month (January – February) in Odisha. Triveni Amavasya 2020 date is January 24 as per traditional Oriya calendar. People take a dip in the holy rivers and have darshan of deities on the day. The day is observed as the birthday of Goddess Viraja.

On Triveni Amavasya, Goddess Viraja at Viraja Temple in Jajpur is worshipped as Goddess Savitri.

The highlight on the day is the chanting of the sacred Gayatri mantra. During the period a Tribeni Yatra is held at Bhapur near Puri.

The day is highly auspicious during Kumbh Mela and Magh Mela at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.
