The fight between Ravana and Vanara Nila during the Ramayana war is both amusing and showcases the remarkable shape-shifting abilities of the Vanaras. After Ravana successfully defeated Sugriva and Hanuman, he turned his attention to Nila, another valiant warrior of the Vanara army.
As the battle commenced, Nila found himself in great pain
from Ravana's relentless attacks. However, Nila's extraordinary shape-shifting
abilities gave him an edge. He reduced his size to that of a mongoose and
leaped onto Ravana's chariot, swiftly climbing up the flag post. Ravana,
surprised by this sudden maneuver, looked up to find Nila. Seizing the moment,
Nila jumped down onto Ravana's bow and then onto his head, demonstrating
incredible agility and quickness.
Ravana tried to catch Nila, but the nimble Vanara was too
quick. Nila continued to evade Ravana's grasp by jumping onto his crown. This
infuriated Ravana, who found himself unable to capture the elusive Vanara. In a
bold and disrespectful move, Nila kicked Ravana's crown off his head and
further humiliated him by urinating on his head.
The final confrontation between the two saw Ravana, driven
by rage and desperation, managing to get a glimpse of Nila. He swiftly shot an
arrow at Nila. The arrow struck Nila, but despite the impact, Nila did not
succumb to the injury. This fight not only highlighted Nila's resilience and
quick thinking but also underscored the unique and formidable abilities of the
Vanaras in the Ramayana war.
This incident is part of Bengali Krittibasi Ramayana.
