Best Sleeping Position as Per Hindu Teachings

Our elders used to warn us not to sleep with our head towards north and west. Here is the best sleeping position as per Hindu teachings. As per Hinduism, the best position to sleep is with our heads towards east and south. Never sleep with head towards North.

When we sleep with our head towards the East, the magnetic force or energy of the sun (Surya) enters through the head and leaves through the feet. Thus, we have a cool head and warm feet. We will have a sound sleep and will wake up fresh in the morning.

The opposite phenomenon happens when we sleep with our head towards West; it results in hot head and warm feet. We wake up irritated, with headache and heaviness.

When we sleep with our head towards the South, the unlike poles of the human body attract each other. Similar the unlike poles of the earth also attract each other. This does not cause any friction or contention. We will sleep well and will feel rested.

We should never sleep with our head towards North because the like poles repel. When we sleep with our head towards north side, the like poles of the human body repel each other. Similar the like poles of the earth also repel each other. This causes lot of commotion. We wake up with heaviness, headache and being uncomfortable.

It is also believed that the iron in the blood starts migrating towards head if we sleep with our head in the north direction. This increased iron activity in the brain can cause constant headache, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson disease, cognitive decline and other brain related issues.

Above all, for a good and sound sleep, we should always follow Dharma. We need to have total control over our senses. We should clearly know what to do and what not to do. Always read a few lines from the Bhagavad Gita before going to sleep.
