Tiruvilwamala Ekadashi – Punarjani Cave at Thiruvilwamala Temple



Tiruvilwamala Ekadashi is held at the famous Thiruvilwamala Temple in Thrissur District in Kerala. Tiruvilwamala Ekadashi 2015 date is February 15. Numerous rituals are observed during the period. Temple festival is also held during this period.

One of the main rituals in the temple is the passing through the Punarjani Cave located on the eastern part of the Temple. It is believed that passing through this cave would end one’s cycle of birth and death and will help in attaining Moksha. This ritual is annually held on the Guruvayur Ekadasi during the Malayalam month of Vrischikam. Punarjani Cave is only open to the public during this particular Ekadashi day. In 2015, this is on November 22.

Thiruvilwamala Temple is dedicated to Lord Ram and the deity here is known as Vilwadrinatha.
