Kamakhya Devi Puja

Kamakhya Devi Puja is dedicated to Goddess Shakti and is performed during the Aashar month (June – July) in the famous Kamakhya Devi Temple in Assam. Kamakhya Devi Temple is one of the 51-Shaktipeetahs in world. In 2015, Kamakhya Devi Puja begins on June 22 and ends on June 26. This particular puja held at the Kamakhya temple in the Aashar month is also famous as the Ambubasi Festival.

Kamakhya Devi Puja is associated with Tantric rituals and thousands of devotees offer special pujas during the period. Tantric Babas from all around the world assemble at Kamakhya Devi Temple during the period.
It is believed that nobody returns empty handed from the abode of Goddess Kamakhya as she fulfills the wishes of her devotees.

Legend has it that Goddess Kamakhya goes through her yearly menstrual cycle during Kamakhya Devi Puja period in Aashar month. Devotees are not allowed the darshan of her for three days. On the fourth day, the doors of the temples are open to devotees and thousands gather for worshipping the Devi Kamakhya.
