Sri Amaranarayana Swamy Temple is dedicated to Bhagavan Vishnu and is located at Kaiwara village, Chikkaballapura in Karnataka. Located off the Bengaluru–Kadapa Highway before Hoskote, this sacred destination attracts devotees, history enthusiasts, and nature lovers alike.
Historical Significance of the Temple
The Sri Amaranarayana Swamy Temple is believed to be nearly 800 years old and was built during the reign of the Chola dynasty. Dedicated to Sri Amaranarayana Swamy, Mahavishnu, the deity is believed by devotees to belong to the Krita Yuga, giving the temple immense historical and spiritual importance.
Despite being located in the center of a busy village, the temple continues to preserve its traditional charm and sacred atmosphere. The architectural style reflects the grandeur of South Indian temple craftsmanship, though some parts of the inner gopuram and a few idols are in need of restoration and preservation.
The Legacy of Kaiwara Tatayya
The temple is deeply associated with the revered saint, popularly known as Kaiwara Tatayya. Born in 1726 and believed to have lived until 1836, Tatayya was a great yogi, philosopher, and devotee of Lord Narayana.
According to local belief, he performed intense penance at the Amaranarayana Temple and later attained enlightenment through the blessings of Lord Narasimha Swamy. Kaiwara Tatayya is also renowned for authoring “Kalagnana” in Kannada, a prophetic work that describes future happenings and spiritual insights. His teachings and divine presence continue to inspire devotees even today.
It is important to note that the Jiva Samadhi of Kaiwara Tatayya is not situated inside the Amaranarayana Swamy Temple premises, as many visitors mistakenly believe. The samadhi shrine is located approximately 500 meters away at another nearby temple.
The Sacred Hill and Narasimha Cave Temple
One of the most unique experiences at Kaiwara is the spiritual trek leading to the hill shrine above the temple. Visitors can climb a series of steps that pass through a scenic path lined with statues of saints and prominent spiritual figures.
At the top of the hill lies a sacred cave shrine dedicated to Lord Narasimha Swamy. It is believed that Kaiwara Tatayya meditated in this very cave during his years of penance. The peaceful surroundings, cool breeze, and panoramic views of the lush landscape create a deeply calming and spiritual atmosphere for devotees and travelers alike.
