Thavakkara Valiyavalappu Tharavadu Devasthanam temple is located at Thavakkara in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Kuttichathan and related deities that are commonly worshipped in kavu and tharavadu in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Thula Month – Thulam 7 and Thulam 8 (October 23 to October 24).
The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Thavakkara Valiyavalap Tharavadu Devasthanam are Kuttichathan theyyam and couple of other theyyams.
This is a small temple with a chathura sreekovil – square sanctum
sanctorum. The shrine has a decorated roof with traditional motifs. Certain
deities are worshipped atop square platforms and under trees. Important pujas
are performed here on Sankranti day which falls in the middle of a month as per
Malayalam calendar.
