Nittoor Puthussery Kongattu Tharavadu Devasthanam Temple – Kaliyattam Theyyam Thira Festival

Nittoor Puthussery Kongattu Tharavadu Devasthanam temple is located at Nittoor near Thalassery in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Khandakarnan, Sasthappan or Kuttichatahn and other deities commonly worshipped in Kavu and Tharavadu in the region. The annual Kaliyattam theyyam thira festival is held for two days in Malayalam Vrischika Masam – Vrischikam 7 to Vrischikam 8 (November 22 to November 23).

Important theyyams that can be seen at Thalassery Nittur Puthussery Kongattu Tharavadu Devasthanam temple are Kuttichathan theyyam, Gulikan theyyam, Khandakarnan theyyam and Uchitta theyyam.

The temple has a chathura sreekovil or square sanctum sanctorum for the main deity. This is a family maintained small temple. Certain deities are worshipped atop square platforms and under trees. The important pujas and rituals are observed on Sankranti day as per Malayalam calendar.
