Mahadeva Gramam Edavalathu Tharavadu Devasthanam Temple – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival

Mahadeva Gramam Edavalathu Tharavadu Devasthanam temple is located at Mahadeva Gramam near Payyanur in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Chamundi and related deities that are commonly worshipped in kavu and tharavadu in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Thula Month – Thulam 6 and Thulam 7 (October 22 to October 23).

The important theyyam that can be witnessed at Mahadeva Gramam Edavalathu Tharavadu Devasthanam temple is Kundor Chamundi theyyam.

This is a small temple with a chathura sreekovil – square sanctum sanctorum. The shrine has a decorated roof with traditional motifs. This is a privately maintained family temple. Certain deities are worshipped atop square platforms and under trees. Important pujas are performed here on Sankranti day which falls in the middle of a month as per Malayalam calendar.
