Kizhunna Sree Muchilottu Bhagavathy Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Thira Festival

Kizhunna Sree Muchilottu Bhagavathy temple is located at Kizhunna in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Muchilottu Bhagavathy. The annual thira – theyyam festival in the temple is held for three days in Malayalam Makara Masam – Makram 15, Makaram 16 and Makaram 17 (January 29, January 30 and January 31).

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Kizhunna Sree Muchilottu Bhagavathy temple are Kannangattu Bhagavathy theyyam, Muchilottu Bhagavathi theyyam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Puliyoor Kali theyyam and Narambil Bhagavathy theyyam.

The temple has a chathura sreekovil – square sanctum sanctorum – for the main deity. Other deities are worshipped in small sreekovils, square platforms and under trees. Sankranti is an important day of worship in every month. Vishu is an important festival here. The walls and roof of the main sreekovil are decorated with traditional motifs.
