Arayi Sree Valiya Veedu Tharavadu Devasthanam Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Thira Festival

Arayi Sree Valiya Veedu Tharavadu Devasthanam temple is located at Arayi near Kanhangad in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavathy, Vishnumoorthi and Gulikan. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Vrischika Masam – Vrischikam 8 and Vrischikam 9 (November 23 and November 24).

Important theyyams that can be witnessed at Arayi Sree Valiya Veedu Tharavadu Devasthanam temple are Gulikan theyyam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Kadavathu Bhagavathi theyyam and Padarkulangara Bhagavathi theyyam.

The temple has a chathura sreekovil – square sanctum sanctorum – for the main deity. Other deities are worshipped in small sreekovils, square platforms and under trees. Sankranti is an important day of worship in every month. Vishu is an important festival here. The walls and roof of the main sreekovil are decorated with traditional motifs.
