Vannadil Meenakkottil Madayil Chamundi temple is located on temple road at Payyanur in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Shiva, Vishnumoorthi, Chamundi, Bhagavathy and some rare deities worshipped in kavu and tharavadu in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Thula Masam – Thulam 27 and Thulam 28 (November 11 to November 12). The rare Sreekandan theyyam of Shiva is performed here.
The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Vannadil Meenakkottil Madayil Chamundi temple are Madayil Chamundi theyyam, Sreekandan theyyam, Kanakkara Bhagavathy theyyam, Gulikan theyyam and Vishnumoorthi theyyam. The temple has a chathura sreekovil (square sanctum
sanctorum) for the main deity. Some deities are worshipped atop small square
platforms and under trees. The temple performs special pujas and rituals on
Sankranti day.
