Unnamadam Tharavadu Devasthanam Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Thira Festival

Unnamadam Tharavadu Devasthanam temple is located at Padinharekkara in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavathy, Bhootham, Vishnumoorthi and numerous other deities that are commonly worshipped in kavu and tharavadu in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for three days in Malayalam Vrischika Masam – Vrischikam 9 to Vrischikam 10 (November 24 to November 25).

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Unnamadam Tharavadu Devasthanam temple are Athiyanangum Bhootham theyyam, Padaveeran theyyam, Veeranmar theyyam, Cheriyothi, Areekkara Bhagavathy, Raktha Chamundi, Chooliyar Bhagavathy theyyam, Parakulangara Bhagavathy theyyam, Vishnumoorthi, Dhandiyanganath Bhagavathy and Gulikan.

The main deities are worshipped in traditional house renovated recently. Some deities are worshipped atop small square platforms and under trees. There are other smaller sreekovils. The temple performs special pujas and rituals on Sankranti day. The shrine has been renovated and has a modern look. This is a family maintained private temple.
