Ravaneshwaram Kunhangad Tharavadu Devasthanam Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Thira Festival

Ravaneshwaram Kunhangad Tharavadu Devasthanam temple is located at Ravaneshwaram in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavathy, Vishumoorthi, Bhootham, Gulikan and numerous other deities that are commonly worshipped in kavu and tharavadu in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Vrischika Masam – Vrischikam 9 to Vrischikam 10 (November 24 and November 25).

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Ravaneswaram Kunhangad Tharavadu Devasthanam temple are Mulavannoor Bhagavathy theyyam, Padinjare Chamundi theyyam, Gulikan theyyam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Pottan theyyam, Bhootham theyyam, Karnavar, Mothi Kolam and Moovalamkuzhi Chamundi theyyam.

The temple has a deerkha chathura sreekovil (rectangular sanctum sanctorum). Some deities are worshipped atop small square platforms and under trees. There are other smaller sreekovils. The temple performs special pujas and rituals on Sankranti day. The shrine has been renovated and has a modern look. This is a family maintained private temple.
