Kuniyeri Puklath Tharavadu Chamundi Devasthanam Temple – Kaliyattam Theyyam Thira Festival

Kuniyeri Puklath Tharavadu Chamundi Devasthanam temple, also known as Kuniyeri Puklathu Chamundi Devasthanam temple, is located at Kuniyeri near Iriyanni in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Chamundi. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for five days in Malayalam Vrischika Masam – Vrischikam 13 to Vrischikam 17 (November 28 to December 2).

Important theyyams that can be witnessed at Kuniyeri Puklath Tharavadu Chamundi Devasthanam temple are Gulikan theyyam, Pottan theyyam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam and Raktha Chamundi theyyam.

The temple has a traditionally decorated chathura sreekovil for the main deities. The are smaller sanctums for some deities. Certain deities are worshipped atop small raised square platform which are exposed to the elements. Some deities are worshipped under trees. This is a family maintained private temple. Main pujas and rituals are performed on Sankranti day as per traditional Malayalam calendar.
