Karuvachery Pathikkal Chamundeswari Temple – Kaliyattam Theyyam Thira Festival

Karuvachery Pathikkal Chamundeswari temple is located at Karuvacheri near Nileshwar in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Chamundeswari, Thondachan, Dharma Daivam, Gulikan and numerous other rare deities. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Vrischika Masam – Vrischikam 12 to Vrischikam 13 (November 28 to November 29).


The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Karuvachery Pathikkal Chamundeswari temple temple are Dharma Daivam theyyam, Koyilerian Gurikkal, Aruvadi Thondi, Thondachan Daivam Theyyam, Sathyamurthy, Pathikkal Chamundeswari, Gulikan, Vishnumurthy, and Kalichan theyyam.

The main deity is worshipped in a small chathura sreekovil – square sanctum sanctorum. The roof of the shrine is traditionally decorated with religious motifs. Other deities are worshiped atop small square platforms and under trees. Important pujas and rituals are performed on Sankranti day in every Malayalam month.
