Kandankali Sree Karalikkara Kannangattu Bhagavathi temple is located at Kandankali in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Kannangattu Bhagavathy. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held once in five years for four days in the last three of Dhanu Masam and the first day of Makara Masam – Dhanu 27 to Makaram 1 (January 12 to January 15).
The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Kandankali Sree Karalikkara Kannangattu Bhagavathi temple are Kannangattu Bhagavathy theyyam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Raktha Chamundi theyyam, Puthiya Bhagavathy theyyam, Pulikandan theyyam, Madayil Chamundi theyyam, Kuvalamthattu Bhagavathy theyyam and Kundor Chamundi theyyam.
This is a small traditional Kerala style temple with a
chathura sreekovil. The walls and roof of the sanctum are decorated with
traditional temple motifs. There are no major structures. Other deities
popularly worshipped in Kavu and temples in Kannur region are also worshipped
in the temple in small sreekovils, under trees and atop raised square
platforms, which are exposed to the elements.
The temple festival days are noted various unique pujas and
rituals, melam, decoration, fireworks and traditional temple performing art
forms.
Sankranti in every Malayalamasam and Vishu are important
days in the temple. The temple has a small pond.
