Vatsa Dwadashi Vrat – Vats Dwadasi Vrat In Bhadrapad Month

Vatsa Dwadashi Vrat is a unique ritual observed in North India, especially in certain parts of Rajasthan, in the Bhadrapad Month. Vatsa Dwadashi Vrat 2024 date is August 30. It is observed on the 12th day during the Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapad month as per traditional calendar followed in North India. Vats Dwadasi Vrat is observed for the wellbeing of children. The day is famous for preparing food made from millet (बाजरा). Cow (go mata) and calf are worshipped on the day.

For the ritual, a cow and calf are worshiped on the day. The cow is given ghee, rice, milk and other delicacies made from millet (बाजरा). The mother undertaking the vrat only eats food made from millet on the day.

Special treats are given to calf on the day. Copra or dried coconut is used as prasad and it is then given to children.

In some region millets are given in charity to the poor.

Cow milk is avoided by those following the ritual. Devotees either avoid milk completely or only use buffalo milk. Chana, moong and Khadi are prepared on the day.
